Luckily, Apple has some great features that let you search for photos by people and location. Let’s look at how we can look for certain people with the help of the People and Places albums.
Find Someone Using the People Album on iPhone or iPad
Your iPhone creates a thumbnail for every face it recognizes. You can scroll through the thumbnails to look for someone, but this can be pretty messy and tiresome. Luckily, there’s a quick way to search for a person in the People album. Here’s how:
In the Photos app, tap Search in the bottom-right corner. In the search bar, type the name of the person you want to find. The corresponding People album will automatically appear in the dropdown list.
Note that you can only use the Search option for named People albums. Thumbnails in the People album without a name will not appear when you run a search.
Find Someone Using the People Album on Mac
The same method can be used to find a particular person on your Mac. Follow these steps:
Click on People in the sidebar of your Photos app. Type the name of the person you’re looking for in the search bar at the top-right corner to find someone in your People album quickly.
Find Someone Using the Location on iPhone or iPad
Say you went to a certain place with someone and took a few photos with them. You want to look for the person again in your gallery, but there is no named thumbnail for the person, so you can’t search for them by name in the People’s album.
Another method is to look for them using location. Here’s how:
In the Photos app, tap Search in the bottom-right corner. In the search bar, type the location of the place you went to. If the photos have embedded location information (GPS data), the location along with the photos will appear. Select the location and browse through all the photos with a person at that particular location.
Another way to search by location is directly in the Places album. Follow this method to do so:
Click on Albums and select Places. By default, you will see a Map view open in front of you. Grouped pictures at a particular location will appear on the map. Tap on the location you want to browse through.

Find Someone Using Location on Mac
Search by location on Mac by following these steps:
Open the Photos app. Type the location you’re looking for in the search bar at the top right corner to quickly find someone you’ve taken pictures with at that location. If you still don’t see the person you’re looking for, select See All and you will then be able to scroll through all the pictures for that location.
The second method would be through the Map view similar to the iPhone. Just click on Places at the sidebar and click on the photo location you want. Double-click on the photo to enlarge it.
Finding People Is Now Easier With the People and Places Albums
The People album and the Places album make it extremely easy to search for a photo or person in your gallery.
If you have a named thumbnail of a specific person on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, all you have to do is type their name in the search bar to see all your photos of them in your Camera Roll. If you don’t have a named thumbnail for a person, you may still be able to find them by scrolling through all the thumbnails in the People album.
However, you can alternatively use a picture’s location to look for them. Type in the location in the search bar or use the map to look for photos at a particular location.
