Here’s where to find Heardle, along with a few tips on how to play it.

What Is Heardle?

Heardle is a website where you listen to the introduction of a song, with the aim being to guess the artist and title in as few tries as possible. With every skipped or incorrect guess, you unlock more of the song to listen to.

You only get six guesses and can ultimately listen to 16 seconds of the song’s opening. But you want to get it much quicker than that—ideally from the first guess, where you can only hear one second of the song.

In a way, Heardle is a Wordle alternative. The creators of Heardle describe it as “a respectful homage to Wordle, with a musical twist.” The main similarities are the name, the number of guesses you get, and that you can only play the same one Heardle a day as everyone else (which refreshes at midnight).

How to Play Hearlde

You can only play the game on the Heardle website. It’s not available as an app. The website updates at midnight your local time with a new song, and everyone is guessing the same song each day—which makes it perfect to challenge your friends.

Press the play button to listen to the first second of the song. Then, use the text box to search for the song you think it is. Select your choice, then select Submit. You’ll see if your guess was right or wrong. If you don’t get the song in six guesses, it’s game over.

With every incorrect guess, you unlock more of the song to listen to. Alternatively, if you don’t want to make a guess, you can select Skip. However, there’s no disadvantage to making a guess; you’re better off picking something random than you are skipping, on the off chance you get it right.

If you’re stuck between a couple of choices, start typing your guesses into the search box. You’ll find that plenty of artists yield no results, or only a few of their songs are listed. If your guess isn’t available as an option, you can strike it without wasting a turn.

At the end of the game, you can select Share to copy an emoji representation of your results to your clipboard. It’ll look something like this:

#Heardle #17

🔈🟥🟥⬛️🟥🟩⬜️

You can share this with your friends through social media like Twitter and Facebook, or other platforms like WhatsApp or Discord.

“#17” represents the round. The red squares are incorrect guesses, dark gray are skips, green is the correct guess, and white is unused guesses. This means you can share your results with others without spoiling the answer.

Add Heardle to Your Daily Games

One of the great things about Heardle is that it’s quick to play. It doesn’t demand much of your time, so you can play it as part of your wake-up routine or if you just need a break during the day. If you’re a fan of Wordle and its other spin-off games, you’ll have a great time with Heardle.

Perhaps the only weakness of the game is that you either know the song or you don’t. That sounds obvious to say, but with Wordle you get feedback on your guesses—a letter being in the right or wrong position—whereas here a guess is either flat out wrong or right. Nevertheless, music fans will have a blast with Heardle.
